5 Laws

5 Laws I want to see Instituted

#1 Having street lights and wide sidewalks on all roads within 1/4 mile of all schools.  I get so worried when I drive past schools when its dark out.  Sure school isn't in session but sport practice maybe or in the mornings students maybe walking to the school.  I know of so many local schools that have few if any sidewalks.  Sidewalks and street lights are so important to a community, especially with students.  Student drivers, dark roads and no sidewalks are not a good combination!

#2 To buy alcohol your license should be scanned, then this information will be stored in a central computer for 24 hours. Each time you purchase a new drink its placed in the computer, that way when you drink and drive it can be more easily proven where your coming from.  If a bar has a large number of drunk drivers coming from it it will be easier to prove and that establishment will be fined accordingly. (I know this would never become a law because the alcohol companies and those who serve it have the money to stop it!)

#3 Banning sexual and drug offenders from working at fairs, amusement parks and hotels focused on families.  Their are so many sexual and drug offenders working these crowded fairs and parks.  So many kids run around at them freely away from any adult supervision.  Its so dangerous!  Plus I have seen first hand how carnies will be trafficking drugs along with their rides.  Fairs, amusement parks and family hotels are places a family and children especially should feel safe.  They shouldn't be places for sexual assaults and drug deals to be happening.

#4 A three day waiting period and mandatory classes for the purchase of a pet (obliviously things like fish and hamsters wouldn't be a part of this, but pets like snakes, dogs, cats, parrots, etc. would be).   I find it so amazing how anyone, at any age can buy a dog!  If we had a waiting list, along with a mandatory informational class fewer people would buy animals that they couldn't properly take care of.  Sadly a number of dogs are bought on impulse buys because the puppy cuteness factor, then when these dogs grow up the owners have no way to care for them.  I especially would like to see this law in place for aggressive breeds such as chows and pit bulls.    I still find it amazing it takes more to go fishing in Florida than it does to buy a dog!  That makes no sense to me.  We have a major issue with the number of stray dogs and cats, and in South Florida the number of snakes and lizards.  One of the reasons for this is because of a lack of knowledge of the animal before the owner bought it, then when it got bigger, stronger or more aggressive than expected the owner doesn't know what to do with it so they just let it go in the wild.  As a result our entire ecosystem is being messed with, our pounds are at capacity, and out children and pets are being attacked by strays!

An average parrot has a mindset of a 2 to 3 yr old human child, with some as intelligent as a 6yr old child.
Now your going to give a animal with that type of mindset to just anyone who has the cash and the willingness.  You do realize that some of these animals are smarter than say some mentally challenged humans.  We would never let a person care for one of these fellow human beings without the proper knowledge and training so why do we do this with animals?  There are so many cases of parrots with mental issues due to a lack of care from their owners, this is truly a major issue in our country.  An average parrot can live up to 100 yrs.  Now if we have a huge of number parrots with mental issues and they are in our society for the next 75 years what do we plan to do with them?  Same with dogs, cats, and snakes!  It would all be fixed with the owners having the proper training ahead of time!

#5 Mandatory green roofs for all new commercial, government and religious buildings over 60,000 sq ft.  These big box buildings take up so much ground, leaving the unfiltered water to runoff and fill retention ponds. By having green roofs the air would be cleaner, the water would be cleaner and the utilities in the building would be lower.  The amount of AC it takes to cool these buildings is insane, but by using a green roof the building starts to cool itself, lowering the amount of AC needed, thus lowering the amount of power needed.  I know of few companies already doing this, but the vast majority aren't and thats not good.  Green roofs have even been proven to help lower the temperature outside, see the sun reflecting off the dark roofs of buildings heats up the surrounding area, whereas with a green roof this reflection is drastically cut down.  A green roof will help our water, our air, and our need for utilities!

So those are a few of my ideas that have been floating around in my head.  The one about the sidewalks and street around schools is something that I think is really needed, these others are just cool ideas that will more than likely never come to pass, but I would be so happy if they did.
